Formerly the Department of Culture and Communication is now the School of Culture and Communication. Originally there were two associate degree programs offered in the fields of Journalism and Secretary for Foreign Entrepreneurs; and in September 1999 the first group of 202 students was enrolled.
In 2000, another associate degree program in Advertising Management was added with a bachelor degree program in Chinese Language & Literature, together 425 students were enrolled in that year, School of Culture and Communication was established, in which the Chinese Language Department, Communication Department, Media Laboratory and Cultural Research Institute were set up. Bachelor degree programs in Advertising became part of it in October 2002; thus, there have been three programs offering bachelor degrees in Chinese Language & Literature, Journalism and Advertising Management.
Although the School has been in existence for just a few years, students with an associate degree graduated in total 1, 061 in the past four years, and 137 with a bachelor degree graduated in the recent past two years. Among these students graduated, 8 were able to be selected to study for a Master’s degree in Shanghai University, Central National University, Nanchang University, Nanjing Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University and Hangzhou Normal University; 3 were enrolled for an advanced study programs in Nottingham University Ningbo Campus; and 1 selected to be an official for social insurance management in the central government’s financial department.
Presently, students graduated from the School have not only been employed in news media and different organizations in Zhejiang, but also in more distinguished institutes such as the People’s Daily. Those who have achieved successfully in the field have become cornerstones of the organizations they are working with. In return, these former students’good quality has played “brand name effect” on the School’s reputation, and students graduated are more likely to be employed. Among the first group of students with a bachelor degree in 2004, the employment contract sign-ups was 94.83% which was top above all other schools & departments in the university; while in 2005 it reached even higher as 97.47%. The fact of employment of student graduated thus has stimulated the enrollment growth in bachelor programs, and with a new bachelor degree program of Editing and Publishing, the School will be further more developed.
